SERVICES
What is a Lumbar Discectomy?
A lumbar discectomy is a surgical procedure to remove part of a herniated or bulging disc that is pressing on a nerve. It is commonly performed to relieve sciatica, leg pain, or numbness caused by disc compression.
The surgery may involve:
Microdiscectomy
Small incision and magnification for precision
Standard discectomy
Removal of the protruding disc material
Partial discectomy
Only the portion of the disc causing nerve compression
Surgery is recommended when:
- Leg or back pain persists despite conservative treatments
- Numbness, tingling, or weakness affects walking or balance
- Daily activities are limited due to nerve symptoms
SERVICES
Why Physiotherapy is Essential
Physiotherapy ensures your spine heals safely and function is restored:
- Reduces nerve irritation and residual pain
- Improves core strength and spinal stability
- Teaches safe bending, lifting, and sitting mechanics
- Reduces risk of recurrence or further disc injury
- Provides confidence to move and return to daily life
Skipping physiotherapy increases the risk of persistent pain, weakness, and delayed return to work.

After suffering for 27 years of back pain and sciatica and five major spine surgeries. I have seen many physios over the years who gave me the wrong treatments and no faith in them and let me down and becoming hopeless. I was lucky to find Post Op Home Physio, the process was very easy especially having home visits and saving on fares I got good information from MARK who set everything up for me. And was very surprised and happy that THEO arrived who is very knowledgeable and at last felt that I was listened to and felt in safe hands. I just wished I would have seen him sooner. I highly recommend the team and especially THEO who actually cares.Posted on Google![]()

I needed home physio on my broken hip which was pinned in Spain. Post Op were able to attend very promptly. Theo my physio was extremely knowledgeable and took time to carefully assess my condition giving both physical manipulation and specific exercises to help me walk and ease the pain. Hip and Spinal Surgery Rehabilitation I had a hip replacement in June 2023 and subsequently suffered a spinal stroke in January 2024 as a result of severe cervical spine cord compression and underwent a major cervical spine laminectomy involving posterior cervical fixation from C2 to T2. In layman terms, my legs were effectively paralysed, and I had a complete loss of independence. I could not walk, leave the home or do anything independently without support. For someone who has always been very independent this was a very challenging time for me, both physically and mentally. Julia Unsworth was part of my physio team for my recovery journey and from the outset, I was very impressed by her caring approach and knowledge of physiotherapy. Julia worked collaboratively with other members of the team during my recovery journey after I was discharged from hospital in February 2024. As a result of her invaluable guidance and motivational support I am independent again today and able to do everything I took for granted prior to suffering the spinal stroke. I cannot thank Julia enough for working so closely with me and other members of my medical team to restore my mobility and independence. I would have no hesitation in recommending Julia. She is, undoubtedly, a very caring and able physiotherapist with a refreshing holistic approach to physiotherapy which is essential for long term recovery!Posted on Trustindex![]()

Post hip operation treatment I cannot speak highly enough of the physiotherapy treatment I received from Toddin at the Post-Operative Home Support Team. From the very beginning, he was supportive, encouraging, and genuinely invested in my recovery. The guidance he provided and the follow-up exercise made a real difference and greatly contributed to my progress. I am truly grateful for his care and would wholeheartedly recommend his services to anyone in need of physiotherapy supportPosted on Google![]()

Julia Unsworth was excellent - kind, knowledgeable, but firm on making sure I did the work. It shows in the outcome - my recovery has been 100%, and the main reason is the post-op physio program work done by Julia with me. I would not hesitate to use her and Post Op Home Physio again.Posted on Google![]()

An excellent experience from start to finish. After surgery to pin my femur back together, I was in pain with very limited mobility, so I chose PostOp Home Physio precisely because of their focus on recovering from surgery at home. Felicitas was brilliant - thoughtful, caring, focused, tailoring the programme to my individual needs with clear goals in view, which she adjusted from session to session depending on progress. She always explained clearly what she was doing and why, and what I should be aiming for. Result: two months after the accident I am almost back to normal. I must also put in a word for Nico, who stepped in seamlessly when Felicitas had a week’s leave. A great team! I recommend them highly!Posted on Google![]()

Following a total knee replacement, I was looking for a home visit physio given expected limited mobility post op rather than having to travel somewhere. Mark at Post Op Home Physio initially came 2x weekly (and later once a week) and provided me with an exercise programme, a great app with video explanations of the exercises, and balanced this with massage, manipulation and advice, all in the comfort of my own home. It was very helpful Mark could share his experience of recovery of other knee replacement patients and also could provide a physiolab icemachine at a very competitive price. I’m sure my recovery would have been a lot slower without Mark’s help. I would highly recommend Mark and Post Op Home Physio to anybody seeking to recover post op or from an injury.Posted on Google![]()

Mark is a fantastic physio, who is an expert in supporting post operative patients who have undergone knee surgery- in my case, a total knee replacement. He is caring, an excellent communicator and his support has not only supported progress in my new knee, but also managed my expectations on my recovery path. This has been brilliant in limiting any stress or anxiety associated with such surgery and keeping me motivated on the road back to full mobility I would highly recommend him to anyone embarking on knee replacement surgery.Posted on Google![]()

Ben and the team have been instrumental in getting me back on my feet and into the gym following major knee surgery. Starting my treatment before the operation they have guided me through every step of the process - including helping me hire a physiolab machine, and giving me a challenging but achievable rehab programme that has left me fitter than I was before the op. Having them visit at home in the days after the surgery was really reassuring and convenient. Ben has been brilliant at working at my pace but making sure I am pushing myself to achieve a really strong recovery, to have clear goals about what I want and a workable programme to get me there. Thoroughly recommend this service.Posted on Google![]()

I had five physio sessions with Julia following hip-replacement surgery. Julia started with gentle exercises, progressing along an increasingly challenging programme as my pain subsided and my mobility improved. I recommend Julia warmly. and without reservations.Posted on Google![]()

In January, I had a full knee replacement. Julia Unsworth took care of me through my rehabilitation over the next few months, initially visiting twice a week to help me through that really tough initial phase. My outcomes were really good - in terms of recovery, flexion/straightening and gradual strength/stability. Julia constantly evolved the rehab exercises that I had to complete between visits and this helped accelerate my recovery. Six months on I have pretty much begun full training again undertaking HIIT classes at F45. Highly recommended due to specific knowledge and experience of this type of rehabilitation. And a really nice person tooPosted on Google![]()

Following an initial assessment I engaged Ben to come to my home for 5 post operative physio sessions after a spinal decompression, laminectomy and fusion. I found him to be professional, caring and extremely helpful with my recovery. I had a partial knee replacement in October and my specialist recommended Post Op Physio. From the start, they were so efficient and helpdul. Aaron was my physiotherapist and he came to my home each week for 10 sessions. I can honestly say, I have never had such a great physio (and I have had many over the years). Aaron managed to get my knee bending - slowly at first, but by gentle manipulation, Aaron helped me bend it to just over 120 degrees. I also had an app on my phone which Aaron updated weekly for me so I could have a programme to do at home. I also thought it was great when Aaron was on annual leave, Mark came in his place to ensure I didn't miss my session. I would have no hesitation in recommending both Post Op Physio and Aaron as I have had a great experience as well as great results for my rehabilitation.Posted on Yelp![]()

After being completely non weight bearing for 12 weeks Post Op Home Physio were quite literally my first step into recovery. Aaron was my therapist and from the outset he was very accommodating. It was very easy to get an initial meeting, after explaining my injury/surger Aaron came to see me within a few days of making contact. His mobilisation massage was incredible and helped me get movement and flexibility back into my foot as quickly as possible. Aaron gave me a simple programme that he updated every week when we had our session as I got stronger and more able to complete the exercises. He also put me in contact with a great Hydrotherapy team, which I would strongly recommend as a supplement to any physio programme. Importantly, Aaron was very attentive to my needs and removed exercises from my programme that were too challenging for me or overly painful. After about 15 sessions Aaron felt that he had taken me on my journey about as far as he could and recommended a more advanced sports physio for me to attend which I am continuing with. Thanks Post Op Physio, and thanks Aaron. You've been of great assistance.Posted on Yell![]()
